4.0 out of 5 stars 1600rpm vs. 3200rpm., April 29, 2010

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:34 Mins

This spin dryer does perform some drying for clothes that come out of a regular washer with the spin cycle, but not as much as I liked. I felt that this would help some in making their decision. On the other hand, I'd like to praise The Laundry-Alternative's more expensive spin dryer Centrifugal Clothes Portable Spin Dryer which extracts A LOT OF water while the spinner spins twice as fast at 3200 instead of 1600rpm (maybe 6 ounces for 3 minutes, while the smaller machine may remove about an ounce for the same amount of clothes). Personally, I was looking for a review of someone who used a regular washer and spin dried their clothes with this, but there weren't any reviews. My review may get a lot of negative feedback, but will save a couple of people money, and that's why I write reviews in the first place... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Efficient; extremely quiet!, August 17, 2009

I love this spinner! It's very well made, and works beautifully. It doesn't hold a lot--I had one full size bath towel in it, that filled it. But it only took 2 minutes, and the towel started out soaking wet. It wrung it beautifully. If the clothes are not quite balanced, it thumps around. But if you move the clothes a little bit, it smooths right out, and you can hardly tell it's running. I am very impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats Wringing, September 17, 2009

This spin drier gets out a unbelievable amount of water. Does not distort the shape of things like hand wringing does. It reduces the drying time substantially. I often just air dry my laundry after they come out of this little titan. No dripping, No mess.

Paired with the Wonder Washer it is perfect for my RV lifestyle.

Would also be great for dorm rooms and apartments.

3.0 out of 5 stars The good, the pretty good, and the noise!, December 30, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
This machine has some very likable features. The novelty of the locking lid is interesting, especially when there are babies running around the house who take off their dirty clothes and put them in the washing machine. 95% of the time it is fine but occasionally they throw muddly clothing in a load that is already in the rinse cycle. I also have a terrible habit of leaving the lid open while the washer is filling and going through its initial wash cycle. My old washer would not spin and rinse while the lid was open but it was still a bad habit. This one won't do anything until its lid is locked down to allow for a faster spin speed, according to the guide. I sort of wonder what kind of liability issue caused them to have to do something like this but it's probably better not to know. It probably had something to do with a cat.

The spreckle basket: This is a nice old-fashioned touch. We had one in a 30-year-old Kenmore that was in our old farmhouse when we started... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
This washer replaced a 6 year old Admiral machine we had been using. Thanks to Vine, I was able to give my old washer to a family in need and try this new Amana out.

First impressions - wow, this thing is smaller than my old washer. Well, not really. My Admiral was wider, yet this Amana was over three inches taller in the basket. So it actually holds a little bit more.

So there is something I must confess. I am a huge washing machine offender. The clothes go to the top, and after they compact down a bit, I throw more in there. I just hate doing laundry so I try to get it over with as quick as possible. Sometimes I put in so many clothes that my old washer would hardly be able to wring them out, which added to the drying time.

Another thing you should know - we are a family of 5. And 2 of us work out every day - plus the DH has a lot of laundry from his military job, so the laundry between us adults and 3 kids is pretty prolific. I need a machine that... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars My new Washing Machine, December 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Amana 3.4 cu. ft. Traditional Top-Load Washer, NTW4501XQ, White (Misc.)
I gave away my Washer and Dryer that was sitting in storage for just over a year since I thought that I would never use them again after moving into an Apt. Well I just bought a house and need a washer and dryer. I was holding off on purchasing them, as I have been spending money like there is no tomorrow since buying this house. With California's new law wanting sales tax from internet purchases I thought I had better get them now to save a little money.
I ordered this machine after reading the description and thought this is the machine that I needed. The ordering process with Amazon went very smooth. The delivery company called me the next day to schedule a delivery. They showed up when they said they would, unboxed the machine and took the packing material away with them. I had to go get two hoses to hook it up the water supply. This machine has a locking lid that is different than the older machine that I used to have. I set the washing cycle, the water level and... 4.0 out of 5 stars What to know before you buy: capacity, December 3, 2006

Richard C. Yeh (New York, NY) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub (Kitchen)
I estimate that I have used this washer for 4 loads each week since buying from J&R in early October, 2006. I live in a studio in New York and bought this one because (1) it has a sink adapter, which the front-loading 14.3-lb model didn't seem to include and (2) at 17.5 inches wide/deep, it fit through my bathroom door, which the front-loading 14.3-lb model (at 20.5 inches wide) wouldn't.

Out of the box, you have to install an included metal pan at the bottom. Install it so that it is convex: there's a reason that the legs are so high. One of the problems I had during installation was that one of the screws holding this metal pan to the body comes very close to a clamp holding the gooseneck drain tube as it exits the body. The clamp had fallen out of position, and the end of the screw is close to where the clamp goes. I don't think I was ever in danger of puncturing the drainage tube, but it's something to watch out for.

You need a place to hang the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars How did I live in New York City for ten years without this?, June 8, 2007
By
This review is from: Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub (Kitchen)
No seriously, how have I been living in apartments for a decade without this machine? Through single and couple-dom life, I've been dragging my clothes to the local (and not-so local) laundromat resulting in frantic minutes scrounging for quarters, two hours of boredom, whites slowly turning yellow in those questionable big machines and a less-than-enthused significant other. Sometimes, I would just give up and wash those needed socks or undershirt in the shower praying they would dry hung up overnight. It was one of those nights that I finally had had enough and the boy started scouring the internet for a solution.

This machine is *my* miracle of modern technology and has significantly improved my life in quantifiable hours - and I bet has saved me money in the long run (if you consider it's five dollars per `big' wash load at the laudromat, and they only have `big' load machines.)

At about 2 1/2 feet high and 17 inches wide, this machine easily plugs into... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, very finicky, better than using the common, March 20, 2008
This review is from: Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub (Kitchen)
I've saved a lot of money using this rather than paying the apartment common wash fee. I would buy it again if nothing was better on the market, but there are a few cons that you should know about, and a few tips I'll share at the end of the review:

- You can't really leave the apartment while running it. The water outflow hose can come loose and water can dump into your bathroom. See tips.

- You can't run it at "high" water level. Leave it on "medium". My best guess is that the water sensor works like a "brita" filter -- it counts spins of a water-wheel to estimate the amount of water in the tub. This is not very accurate and on the "high" setting, the tank will overflow and dump water on the floor.

- It often requires intervention once during the wash cycle. It stops and reports an unbalanced load, which can start an endless fight to rebalance the wash. It's not an overfill issue -- it's a pure balance issue. This happens on 30% of my loads... Read more
